is Agile Metrics really work?

Measure that you can measure, this is quick principle for many concepts including agile. Agile metrics are way to assess the effectiveness of a project. Agile metrics evaluate workflow health, delivery predictable, and business impact. Think deeper.

  • you are using user story point to measure the complexity of the story
  • you are using velocity to understand the speed on a sprint
  • You are using release burndown based on release
However, the purpose of the metric is not only about speed but more than that. Here are some metrics that we can learn
  • Flow metrics. this metric focuses on workflow and reducing waste: cycle time, lead time, throughput, and work in progress.
  • Scrum metrics, this metric monitors the team performance: velocity, sprint burndown, release burndown, cumulative flow diagram
  • Outcome metrics, this metric measure business value and user impact: time to market, defect escape, customer satisfaction, and feature adoption rate.
  • Team health metrics, the metric focuses on morale and sustainability: team morale, happiness index, and turnover rate.
That agile metric can be visualized in any dashboard or graphic to communicate with the team. the question is agile metric work? you should try and experiment to understand the benefit. If anytime you can answer.
  • is the project late?
  • is the team morale is good?
  • does the customer satisfy with us?
